As you may or may not know, UGE is an amazingly multicultural organization. From our office locations in Beijing and New York City to our staff members hailing from South and North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe, the office sometimes resembles a terminal at an international airport. At any give moment, there could be a conversation in Spanish occurring between the sales team, a conversation in French taking place between the engineering team, and a conversation in Chinese happening between the marketing team.

    “It’s freezing outside!”
“But it's only 40 degrees Fahrenheit.”
“Yeah, but the wind is blowing at 35 miles per hour, it feels like 28!”
    “Oh, that’s cold...brrrr!”(1)

During these dog days of summer and at a time when the entire US seems to be shrouded under a wool blanket of extreme heat, we can only dream of having a wind chill and being too cold.  So, why am I being a meanie and talking about winter wind chill in August?  Because just how the wind freezes you to the bone in winter, it can cool you off during the summer.

We left the cool air-conditioned building and travelled to Brooklyn to visit Urban Green Energy's eddy vertical axis wind turbine at a construction site. Taking the A and thereafter the F, we arrived at the site where a green entrepreneur has erected a wind turbine in his ultra-green building. The complex’ features are innovative: recycled materials make up 70% of the building, super-insulation will keep its inhabitants toasty and it will be fully powered by wind and solar generators.

Interning at UGE for 3 weeks now, my curiosity with blogging has increased as well as the relization that many topics have to do with work and everyday life.  I saw that Microsoft bought Skype and now realize that multi-billion dollar companies show their dominance through investing in smaller, yet still well-known companies.  They gain the aspect of re-introducing their names and further increasing their marketing expansion.  Not only do I use Skype, but I also use Microsoft products including Xbox and Microsoft Office.

Google's new self-driving Prius is a new innovation in technology that would help me in my daily life considerably. Still recovering from my back surgery, walking to the train station in the morning can be painful. However, this type of technology would not only relax me knowing I have a ride to the station, but it would decrease my back pain and allow me to have more energy throughout my day. Google's idea of helping people with technology is one I would undoubtedly support, seeing as this car could be the solution to mine as well as many other individuals' daily inconveniences.

Just started my internship few weeks ago at UGE and I would like to thank everybody working at UGE for their warm welcome.
Using Alex's words, another intern I did no get the chance to meet, "the UGE team is 'young, creative, innovative and passionate.'" I add: scrupulous and quick to react!

Learning about wind energy has been a curiosity of mine for a few weeks.  Luckily, I was able to get an internship at Urban Green Energy.  Since starting this internship, I have learned about the process of installing wind turbines as well as how beneficial they can be to any consumer interested in purchasing one.  Having no background learning about this industry, I can honestly say I was nervous to start working in a new environment.  However, the employees of this company were open minded and took no time in making me feel comfortable.
